Lipsy Dipsy Daisy

Oh lipsy, how I do love you. Have you ever noticed how a lipsy dress always seems to flatter you in all the right places? You walk around wearing it, feeling like a complete and utter sass-queen. But have you ever brought a lipsy dress… in the sale?!

Oh how much more exciting it is to wear that £65 dress that you brought for just £32. Especially with a handsome, suited & booted guy like Ben on your arm!

We had a wonderful time at our friend’s wedding recently – I adore having an occasion to dress up for. This embroidery lipsy dress was a last minute purchase after a tonne of panic shopping, and I am so glad I found it in the sale! The blue really stood out and was just absolutely perfect for the occasion.

Pixel2Print: Bringing Instagram to Life

I recently had the opportunity to receive numerous free prints of my choice from printing company, Pixel2Print, to see if I could use them for my blogging – I have been so impressed by the experience, that I NEED to rave about it to you.

*Before I go any further, I want to make it super clear that I received the prints free of charge from Pixel2Print, in exchange for the opportunity to try them out – this review is entirely my own opinion and I’d like to thank Pixel2Print for the wonderful  opportunity!*

The Power of a Backdrop

A backdrop is powerful in your content. It’s completely underestimated, but completely vital for a good feed.

When you look at certain blogs and Instagram feeds, themed content is always more engaging – isn’t that just how it is? As a predominantly lifestyle-based blogger, I find it really difficult to create any sort of ‘theme’ in my Instagram and blog, purely because my life doesn’t have one! I don’t just wear pink clothes, or drink from white mugs, I don’t live in a white box, or have marble kitchen tops… Life isn’t always Instagrammable!

So I explored a way of using the opportunity with Pixel2Print to create more themed content which could look professional, whilst sticking to the type of content I wanted to share – By no means does my Instagram feed have a consistent theme, but I like to create splashes of linked content every now and again!

I chose three high resolution pictures that I thought would make cool backgrounds – A blue splashy effect, a pink splashy effect and of course, marble. To find these pictures, I wanted to make sure that I could use them, so I searched for copyright free images and discovered a few free pictures that I liked via vecteezy.com.

Pixel2Print then printed my backdrops in their three most popular print types and sent them to me. The delivery and print experience was super speedy – my prints arrived the next day in perfect condition!

Each type of print is different – some are glossy whilst others are more matte. I personally think I have preferred the glossy prints, but the matte are equally as useful, especially when combining the two together…

So what do they look like on my feed? Here are a few snaps of my Instagram feed recently…

To fit into a lifestyle blogger’s feed, you don’t need to use the prints in every post. Instead, I have tied in the colours to a few photos that link e.g. the last few shots have a pink theme, in contrast to the blue theme which tied in from the print alongside my trip to the seaside! And it isn’t all about a ‘theme’ – its about creating neat and tidy looking content which engages with my followers.

Since using this more tactical approach to Instagram, I have seen my average likes soar from around 15 per photo to 30/40 per photo – isn’t that evidence enough that this works?! Here are a few shots of what my feed would generally look like before the prints…

My feed was messy and inconsistent, and would drive me insane! But now, I make sure to incorporate the prints into my feed to help tie my content together more – they gave my feed a natural flow.

Thank you so much to Pixel2Print for sending me the free samples, I will certainly be looking into getting a few more different colours and styles to experiment with!

National Stress Awareness Day

Today is National Stress Awareness Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness of stress, a topic we are probably all very familiar with…

Whether you have exam stress, work stress, or even stress at home – stress is something that can affect us all, and really needs to be managed in order that our mental and physical health can be in tip top shape!

The International Stress Management Association (ISMA)  promote stress prevention and wellbeing, so today is all thanks to them for looking out for us – thanks ISMA!

This years theme is particularly centred around “Workforce Wellness” in an attempt to help businesses acknowledge how employees may be experiencing stress and how to help overcome it for an overall healthier and productive workforce.

But don’t let that stop you from putting a few of the below points into action, even if your stress is not from work. Stress can come from many areas in our lives, so in spirit of today, let’s manage it!

So what do ISMA suggest for stress free living?

1. Put yourself first! – let’s be a little selfish, but in a good way…if someone asks you to do something and you PHYSICALLY have no capacity because you’ve already agreed to do something for someone else on top of your own workload, tell them. Don’t be rude, but let them know that you are actually pretty tied down right now and you’ll let them know later if you can pick it up. Think about your own needs first.

Also, eat some good good tonight, and drink lots of water. You’re your own fuel tank, so keep it full and you’ll find you can work so much better.

2. Prioritise tasks – I absolutely adore writing lists. There is nothing more satisfactory than ticking off tasks on a list at work. Keeping priorities allows you to effectively plan and manage workload so that nothing goes missed. Write a list (it’s an excuse for a new notepad too..)

3. Find time to Relax – take a bubble bath, get a sketch pad, go for a walk. Whatever it is that relaxes you, take a little time out of your day to do it.

4. Empathise with others – this is all about listening to others. Who knows, maybe your friend is having the exact same dress that you have? Talk to each other and let it all out!

5. Start to live life to the full – this point made me laugh because I can’t tell you to book a trip to travel around the world, or bunjee jump off a mountain “for the thrill”… but I can tell you to find your ambitions! Have something you want to thrive towards and aim high. Ambition comes with passion, the best mental fuel out there. Live your life to the full by aiming for your goals.

6. Stop ignoring your needs – don’t skip lunch because you have too much to do. Don’t work through the night on an essay because it is due in the next day. You need a break, you need rest. If you ignore your needs, you’ll end up burning yourself out which is just a whole lotta additional stress that you don’t need. Listen to your head and be sensible.

7. Stop getting distracted – oh Aunty Procrastinate, how I adore and hate you all in the same second. Try and ignore her when you’re working and you’ll find you get tasks completely much more quickly because you’re actually focused on completing them. You can doodle in your break.

8. Don’t allow others to make you feel inferior – BELIEVE IN YOURSELF! You are a strong and independent individual that shouldn’t be getting put down by someone that is a little unsure of them self. Ignore hate and focus on loving yourself.

9. Stop being judgemental – accept your flaws, accept your friend’s flaws. Nobody is perfect, and you’re not Judge Rinder (even though you totally want to be).

10. Stop avoiding the things you least want to do – I get all the boring tasks of my day done as quickly as possible. Do something boring followed by something fun. Don’t leave the least interesting tasks till last because you still needs to do them, so why not do them when you’re a little more awake?

I hope you enjoyed today’s post guys, enjoy your stress free day! I can hear a bubble bath, cup of tea, my duvet and a Disney film calling me this evening…

World Mental Health Day

Today is a very important day. Today is World Mental Health Day!

Mental health is an extremely critical part of our lives, and for many years, hasn’t been held as highly as it should have been. An individual’s mental health affects every aspect of their life.

It affects their ambition and goals, it affects their motivation and spirit, and as a result, it completely affects their behaviour.

So in order to be as successful and sassy as we all aim to be, we need to make sure that we’re feeling super super great, both mentally and physically.

And who knows better than The Mental Health Foundation as to how to look after your mental health?! Here are the top 10 tips on how to look after your mental health from the experts themselves… And I might have expanded on them a little.

1. Talk about your feelings

Talking about how you feel is a really important part of looking after your mental health. Don’t let your feelings build up, express them and take a weight off your shoulders! And if you struggle to talk with someone, try writing it down – it might make all the difference.

2. Keep active

The foundation promotes keeping active because it can boost your self-esteem and concentration as well as helping you sleep and feel tonnes better. Maybe we should go for a little jog today (or a fast walk…)

3. Eat well

YES! I feel so much better when I’ve eaten good food, especially after a few days of naughty eating. Mother Nature is your body’s best friend – invite her round for tea!

4. Drink sensibly

We all love a night out, but drinking sensibly is essential when looking after our mental health because alcohol is only a temporary fix and will leave you feeling worse in the morning… Opt for a takeaway and stick Bridget Jones on tonight with your mom. Have a chill.

5. Keep in touch

Apparently chatting on the phone to your friend who left for university for 5 hours is actually a really good idea!!! Of course it is! Chat to your friends who you need to catch up with and you’ll find yourself having a fully engaging conversation which in turn will leave you positively glowing…

6. Ask for help

If you’re struggling, communicate. You aren’t a superhero and sometimes people will forget that – after all, you are a pretty amazing human being. Let someone know if your workload is too much or if you need help with something – we’re all human, of course we’ll help each other out… You’ve just gotta ask.

7. Take a break

I totally encourage this one. I will always make sure I take a lunch break at work and take breaks between studying. If you don’t, you’ll just melt and stress yourself out. Have a nice hot bath when you get home and leave your phone to charge in your room for a while. Take a break! Have some time away from it all and R E L A X.

8. Do something you’re good at

Having a hobbie is ace. Not only do you enjoy yourself, but you can also feel pretty good about yourself if you’re doing something you’re good at!

9. Accept who you are

Don’t try and change yourself. Be you, because you’re most beautiful when you’re loving who you are.

10. Care for others

Look after everyone else too. Not everyone will have read this article. Think your friend is stressed? Get them to communicate to you. Is your mom a bit down? Run her a bath and give her some time out. Look after others how you want looking after and we’ll all be fit as a fiddle.

Remember that the World Mental Health Foundation has tonnes of advice for you with plenty of charities out there that are ready to help if you’re not feeling 100%. Check out mentalhealth.org.uk for any further information!

Hope you have a beautiful day today everybody – keep smiling :)!

Ask me this question and I will show you this video. The moment I could finally see Ben, after 3.5 months in training, and after witnessing him in his passing out parade, feeling so overwhelmingly proud of the man he had become. This, is happiness.
