Bye Bye Winter!

Springtime weather is definitely on its way and I am totally ready for everything that spring has to offer! But as the dark, cold winter days draw to an end, wouldn’t it be nice to take advantage of a few last minute treats that only winter really offers?  The cold season really isn’t all that bad… so here’s a list of things to do to make the most of the last few weeks of the cold weather!

  1. Cosy Movie Day

You can have a movie day anytime of the year, but isn’t it just all the more cosy when the rain is falling outside your window, whilst you are safely cocooned in a duvet with your favourite film playing and a box of chocolates within arm’s length? Let’s grab our duvets and dedicate a day to our favourite films and worship the art of cosiness. Thank you winter for teaching me to be cosy!

  1. A Walk in the Park

Ironically, a walk in the park is not the easiest thing to do in winter (it’ll be a walk in the park…haha I’m hilarious.) But, there is something just a little more magical about the outdoors in the winter months. The crunch of the leaves, the fresh cool air and the peaceful sound of people hiding inside (they’re probably having a Cosy Movie Day…) Parks get so much busier when it starts getting warmer, so lets take our gorgeous winter boots and coat down the park for a little piece of tranquillity. Besides, your winter style deserves to be shared!

  1. Grab yourself a Coffee

A personal winter favourite of mine – sitting in the window of a coffee shop of your choice, watching the world go by. The big selling point to this one is that you a) get a hot drink and b) get to be cosy whilst having a front row seat to the town centre  – people watching at it’s finest.

  1. Pamper Day

If you really are too scared to venture into the cold, why not make the most of your home comforts? Give yourself a pamper with a face masking, nail painting, blow-drying evening at home! After all, what better way to get over the winter blues than treating yours truly to a little bit of TLC…

  1. Plan your summer

They say summer bodies are made in the winter, but so are summer plans! Book a holiday, book a festival – start planning your summer fun! From the wardrobe you’re going to slay, to the day to day adventures that you want to enjoy… Summer is made for adventure.

Why Some Bloggers SHOULDN’T Do Makeup Tutorials…

The truth behind every photo or video I post is this – my family and I have so much fun. We are all crazy and annoying but oh my goodness, we have such a laugh!

I was looking back through my camera recently when I found an attempt at doing my sister’s makeup when she came home a few months ago. The footage was absolutely hilarious. There is so much stuff I can’t show you because it wouldn’t make sense, and so much stuff I would find too embarrassing to post… and disclaimer: I’m so bad at makeup it hurts.

I really hope you enjoy this little video showing the truth behind a lifestyle blogger’s makeup tutorial – enjoy!

Why Some Bloggers Shouldn’t Do Makeup Tutorials

Ideas?

I have so many content ideas right now, ah it is super exciting! The best (and worst) part of this, is that a lot of  my ideas will likely be done via video – omg interactive posting? Check me out.

The problem with this though, is that I work full-time… and it is winter… so it’s dark when I wake up and dark when I leave work…

Luckily for me, I have booked this Friday off work (more details on my Thursday & Saturday plans will emerge shortly, I’m sure…) So maybe… MAYBE…. you’ll have some new stuff on this little blog o’ mine shortly. Maybe…

But for now, here is a sunny island throwback on this glum Tuesday morning – have a happy day everybody!

Dealing with Exams

It’s that time of year again, where we emerge from our merry little Christmas coma to discover that we have an exam to study for and very little time to do so! I personally hate January exams, as I always feel that they creep up on me because I’m so excited for Christmas that the exam gets a tad forgotten until January 1st… then it’s a panic.

But do not fear my fellow examinees! Here are a few of my top tips for smashing your exams…

1. Start preparing as early as you can!

Make sure that you finish reading all the material as soon as possible so that you can crack on with making revision aids in good time for the exam. This will ensure that you can identify the areas you need more time on, whilst also allowing you to relax a little more in the days before the exam – cramming gives you far too much unnecessary stress!

2. Study little and often – break it up!

Again, please don’t try and cram it all into your head without taking a break! Cramming is unhealthy and counterproductive. I usually set myself “study days” in the run up to an exam where I try and revise as much as possible, but I take regular breaks throughout the day so that my head has a minute to actually digest what I have just revised. You wouldn’t eat dinner immediately after breakfast…would you?

3. Drink water – plenty!

Treat water like your kryptonite. Keeping hydrated is extremely important when studying as it makes your body function at its top form, helping you remember everything you need to. Plus it gives you lots of reasons to take a break – toilet break and top up, anyone?

4. Tailor your revision to you

It would be completely useless for me if I just read pages and pages of notes without doing anything with them, because I learn best from summarising information into colourful spider diagarams and posters. I know this because I have tailored my revision over the years and noticed that this is how I learn best! In contrast, you might learn from reading pages of notes, or listening back to audio notes. The point is, tailor your revision to how you learn best – don’t just copy your friend’s method. We know our own minds the best, so study in a self-tailored fashion for ultimate success.

5. Don’t panic

Easier said than done, right? Keeping cool in the run up to an exam is essential in avoiding extreme procrastination! Try and relax. Instead of fretting, ensure you are revising as much as possible at any given opportunity. Take time out of your day to revise, even if it’s just for half an hour. Dedicate yourself to the exam as much as you can and you’ll find your nerves blossoming into confidence. Breathe! It’s all going to be ok.

6. Eat well

What a mighty fine reason to take a break – a girls gotta eat! Make sure you are fuelling your body with good food so that you have enough energy to absorb the information. A few veggies won’t hurt!

7. Sleep

Don’t do an all nighter, your brain will go bye byes before you realise. Get plenty of sleep near an exam so your head is wide awake and ready to learn!

8. Move about & turn off that phone!

Don’t sit in a chair all day thinking you’re actually taking a break by scrolling on Instagram for ten minutes. Take a stroll and get some fresh air in your breaks so that you aren’t turning into a stone statue, cowering over a book. If you ache today, you’ll ache tomorrow, and being uncomfortable is the biggest distracted when it comes to revising.

I hope you enjoyed my tips & are studying the hell out of January! Time for me to get on with me studies today… let’s do this!

Christmas 2016

Ah what a lovely few days it has been. I always say that Christmas is my favourite time of year and I am never wrong – whenever I reflect on Christmas, I get a warm happy feeling about all the wonderful gifts I have received, all the amazing food I have eaten but most importantly, all the precious time that I have managed to spend with the people that matter the most.

15665655_10205914132811365_2352507954153334314_n.jpg

I spent Christmas Day with Molly & Mom (and of course, Gilbert the Bullmastiff, Martha the Deaf Cat, Delilah the Kitty and Horace the Rabbit… of course). We have plenty of christmas traditions at home, starting with myself & Molly waiting at the top of the stairs until my mom has ‘checked if Santa has been’ (aka she turns the Christmas music and lights on and makes a cup of tea!) 15727239_10205914133771389_4826680422176394380_n

We then enter the living room where we both have a pile of gifts to open from my mom. After that, its onto gift giving to Mom from Molly and Me, and then gifts to Molly from me and vice versa. Finally, the animals get their gifts. Some of my wonderful gifts (to name only a few!) include an Amazon Firestick, a beautiful 2017 Journal, an Amazing 2017 Agenda (I cannot wait to have the most organised 2017 EVER!), perfume, clothes, Twinkies, Lindor chocolates (Fave), colouring books, plenty of other books, pretty things for my desk, a mac skin, artwork…. the list goes on. I was spoilt. And so were they!

We also have a tradition of having a photo taken with me and Molly laying in all the wrapping paper in the room on Christmas Morning, which has been a tradition for as long as I can remember! However for the past three years, the photo has also included our little Gilbert. Oh how he has evolved…

15747387_10154745696113548_2519256650241061999_n.jpgMe and Ben exchanged bags of pressies on Christmas Eve and then FaceTimed on Christmas morning to open our gifts together. Again, the list goes on… to include a Michael Kors watch, Gucci Perfume, Disaronno (my fave next to Malibu!), a Jack Wills gift set… I was spoilt. And so was he!

After plenty of unwrapping, the three of us popped over to visit family and exchanged a few more gifts and conversations before returning to our cosy nest to prepare for Christmas Dinner. My mom becomes a kitchen goddess at Christmas and cooks for thirty thousand instead of three. But the quality of the food always outweighs the quantity in every aspect (which seems impossible considering how much food she actually cooks.)

FullSizeRender.jpgAfter entering a food coma, it was onto relaxing in front of the television with Cards Against Humanity played and numerous desserts consumed. I even had a nap.

My Christmas Day was amazing, and always extends further into Boxing Day. On Boxing Day, my dad collected me and Molly and we spent the day at my nans house where we ate a beautiful lamb dinner and exchanged even more gifts, to include further clothes, makeup, perfume, chocolate… the list goes on again!15585212_10157967991310015_9097848052750148767_o.jpg

We then relaxed further and stayed the night at my nans – cheesecake & christmas pudding were again, consumed.

My Christmas always extends into the following days because I have so many people I want to see! On 27th, I enjoyed a third Christmas with my handsome beau, chilling with yet more food and television – after all, thats what December is made for, surely?!

I hope you all had an amazing Christmas and are looking forward to the New Year – I certainly am!

Speak again soon,

Katy xx
