Today’s ‘To Do’ list is a layered masterpiece, inspired by this very note book… I’m hooked up to the soundtrack of Ludovico Einaudi this morning on my busy commute to work in an attempt to start the day as I mean to go on – stress free & focused. Today’s goal? Focused.
Today is World Mental Health Day! And what a wonderful day it is. It is a spectacular occasion to recognise that our mental health is just as important as our physical health.
As part of #WMHD, today I plan to write a list, a list of 10 things that make me happy and make me feel healthy. A list of 10 things that play a huge part in my mental health – what are yours?
Make sure to read my post from last year all about what you can do for your mental health ❤
Have a wonderful day!
I don’t really know how I am feeling today. It’s 1st September which typically marks the start of winding down temperatures, darker nights, darker mornings… but as I write this, the sun is shining, the birds are singing, and the day is displaying more of what I would expect from the first day of Spring than the first day of September!
I hate the short days in the winter & absolutely despise being cold, but September is my exception (alongside Halloween, Bonfire Night & Christmas – of course!) September marks the start of a new term. For many, in the literal sense – starting a new term of school. Myself, starting my new set of studies at university.
But I am a strong believer that we should always treat September as a new term regardless of what we might physically be starting; September is an opportunity to re-invest in yourself. No “new year, new me” style promises – just a fresh start at a time where the year hasn’t yet ended, so if it hasn’t been a great year, there is still time left to fix it.
My new term promises?
When I went on holiday last week (a post will surely follow..) I realised that I had stopped wearing makeup again, stopped doing my hair. I always go through phases where my mood has a sudden crash and I stop caring about how I look, which isn’t in itself all that bad a thing. But it is a bad thing when you’re getting more and more down because now you also look like a disaster. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that I hate my skin – and recently it has been particularly bad. So when I started feeling sad about it, I simply stopped trying to cover it up, which in turn, made me see my bad skin every single day, making every single day a pain to look in the mirror. Yikes. Instead, I realise that you shouldn’t give up on these things; re-visit the doctor, try a new face wash, do something rather than give up on it!
On holiday, I made an effort every day. I felt superb. My makeup would be cute each night & my hair felt under control. I felt like me again!
Since I’ve been back in Blighty, I have made a conscious effort again – a little bit of makeup for work. Taking the time after a shower to style my hair ready for the next day. Wearing that brand new jacket I felt too fat to wear even though it actually looks really cute and it was all in my head.
I have also promised myself a nice new coat & work wardrobe. I want to start dressing to impress again – not others, but myself. I am fed up of wearing baggy clothes that in turn, make me look baggy! I convince myself that I don’t feel comfortable but realise that I am my own worst enemy – You actually look okay in a dress Kate, stop hiding in your jeans and a hoodie.
I’ve realised that if I dress myself lazy every day, I feel lazy. Yes I have lazy days but September is the start of me taking a little more time for myself and making that smidge more effort so that I can feel comfortable in my own skin again. I already feel 10x better after just a few weeks of my love myself regime; I can’t wait to see how winter goes!
And finally, new stationery. *Shivers* I god damn LOVE stationery. A new pen set, a new pad. A folder or two. Stationery lets me feel organised and I love feeling on top of things. I start my studies towards the end of September so I have plenty of time to sort myself out… I love stationery.
So let’s treat September like our new term, a time to re-invest in yourself. It isn’t a reinventing exercise like the new year so typically becomes; it’s a new term, a fresh start – a time to improve where we might have slipped up in 2017.
Enjoy your 1st September!
Is there anything better than breakfast on the weekend? I love how much extra time I have to eat at the weekends because I absolutely adore food – it is my biggest hobby…
One of my favourite dishes to throw together for breakfast, lunch or tea is the easy peasy beans on toast – but have you ever tried it with philiadelphia (or some other form of cream cheese, whichever you prefer…)?
This works even better with tinned spaghetti hoops or letters (I am a child at heart, remember!)
All you need to do is:
1. Toast your bread – easy.
2. Cook them beans – easyyyyyy.
2. Butter your bread – moderately easy dependent on your buttering powers.
3. Add that cheese baby. Cream or grated, your choice.
4. Dish up them beans – this takes skill. Be careful. You don’t want to make a bean mountain.
Now I’m pretty sure you don’t need to be told how to make beans on toast. The truth is I’m just hungry. But if you are hungry too and your Monday morning does not include going to work, dish up some beans on toast for yourself in honour of me being hungry today.
Oh lipsy, how I do love you. Have you ever noticed how a lipsy dress always seems to flatter you in all the right places? You walk around wearing it, feeling like a complete and utter sass-queen. But have you ever brought a lipsy dress… in the sale?!
Oh how much more exciting it is to wear that £65 dress that you brought for just £32. Especially with a handsome, suited & booted guy like Ben on your arm!
We had a wonderful time at our friend’s wedding recently – I adore having an occasion to dress up for. This embroidery lipsy dress was a last minute purchase after a tonne of panic shopping, and I am so glad I found it in the sale! The blue really stood out and was just absolutely perfect for the occasion.
I recently had the opportunity to receive numerous free prints of my choice from printing company, Pixel2Print, to see if I could use them for my blogging – I have been so impressed by the experience, that I NEED to rave about it to you.
*Before I go any further, I want to make it super clear that I received the prints free of charge from Pixel2Print, in exchange for the opportunity to try them out – this review is entirely my own opinion and I’d like to thank Pixel2Print for the wonderful opportunity!*
The Power of a Backdrop
A backdrop is powerful in your content. It’s completely underestimated, but completely vital for a good feed.
When you look at certain blogs and Instagram feeds, themed content is always more engaging – isn’t that just how it is? As a predominantly lifestyle-based blogger, I find it really difficult to create any sort of ‘theme’ in my Instagram and blog, purely because my life doesn’t have one! I don’t just wear pink clothes, or drink from white mugs, I don’t live in a white box, or have marble kitchen tops… Life isn’t always Instagrammable!
So I explored a way of using the opportunity with Pixel2Print to create more themed content which could look professional, whilst sticking to the type of content I wanted to share – By no means does my Instagram feed have a consistent theme, but I like to create splashes of linked content every now and again!
I chose three high resolution pictures that I thought would make cool backgrounds – A blue splashy effect, a pink splashy effect and of course, marble. To find these pictures, I wanted to make sure that I could use them, so I searched for copyright free images and discovered a few free pictures that I liked via vecteezy.com.
Pixel2Print then printed my backdrops in their three most popular print types and sent them to me. The delivery and print experience was super speedy – my prints arrived the next day in perfect condition!
Each type of print is different – some are glossy whilst others are more matte. I personally think I have preferred the glossy prints, but the matte are equally as useful, especially when combining the two together…
So what do they look like on my feed? Here are a few snaps of my Instagram feed recently…
To fit into a lifestyle blogger’s feed, you don’t need to use the prints in every post. Instead, I have tied in the colours to a few photos that link e.g. the last few shots have a pink theme, in contrast to the blue theme which tied in from the print alongside my trip to the seaside! And it isn’t all about a ‘theme’ – its about creating neat and tidy looking content which engages with my followers.
Since using this more tactical approach to Instagram, I have seen my average likes soar from around 15 per photo to 30/40 per photo – isn’t that evidence enough that this works?! Here are a few shots of what my feed would generally look like before the prints…
My feed was messy and inconsistent, and would drive me insane! But now, I make sure to incorporate the prints into my feed to help tie my content together more – they gave my feed a natural flow.
Thank you so much to Pixel2Print for sending me the free samples, I will certainly be looking into getting a few more different colours and styles to experiment with!

Hi lovelies! Can you believe it? Me & Ben have been together for 4 YEARS!
To celebrate, I ‘surprised’ Ben with a weekend away for in his favourite seaside town, Great Yarmouth!
You might remember from previous posts, that Ben surprised me for our 2 year anniversary with a trip to Harry Potter world – I literally had no idea where I was going until we pulled up at the studios… so we decided that it was my turn to try and pull off a surprise…
So, I planned a visit to Great Yarmouth, staying at a beautiful 4 star hotel with a sea front room! All Ben knew was that we were going away for the weekend. I kept it a secret for over a month!
UNFORTUNATELY, the night before we were due to go, my Apple Maps kindly announced out loud (I was checking the route!) “Starting route to Great Yarmouth”… Ben obviously heard, didn’t he?
Nevertheless, he was chuffed, and we had an awesome weekend! The sun came out from under its dark British cloud, and we spent the weekend relaxing with plenty of fish & chips and ice cream. The hotel was amazing too!
I’m super quiet at the moment and struggling to find time to blog… But I have a few things lined up for the next few weeks so please be patient and you’ll soon see me all over your screens once more!
For now, make sure you’re following me on Instagram over at https://www.instagram.com/thatgirlfrom/ (I’ll give you a follow back too!) to keep up to date with me!
I’m also trying to heat my twitter back up again after neglecting it to become a cold arctic hole in the ground… so make sure you’re following me on Twitter @katyspiano15 and feel free to nag me on a daily basis, reminding me to tweet! I’ll also give you a cheeky little follow on there!
Happy Wednesday sweeties!
Happy humpday! Let’s survive today, military style. I absolutely adore this coat from Boohoo. It is super flattering and keeps me cosy warm. It’s all about the colour and buttons on this bad boy – effortless style.
P.s. Happy 1st March everybody!
