World Mental Health Day 2017

Today is World Mental Health Day! And what a wonderful day it is. It is a spectacular occasion to recognise that our mental health is just as important as our physical health.

As part of #WMHD, today I plan to write a list, a list of 10 things that make me happy and make me feel healthy. A list of 10 things that play a huge part in my mental health – what are yours?

Make sure to read my post from last year all about what you can do for your mental health ❤

World Mental Health Day

Have a wonderful day!

Sunday Morning Beans on Toast

Is there anything better than breakfast on the weekend? I love how much extra time I have to eat at the weekends because I absolutely adore food – it is my biggest hobby…

One of my favourite dishes to throw together for breakfast, lunch or tea is the easy peasy beans on toast – but have you ever tried it with philiadelphia (or some other form of cream cheese, whichever you prefer…)?

This works even better with tinned spaghetti hoops or letters (I am a child at heart, remember!)

All you need to do is:

1.  Toast your bread – easy.

2. Cook them beans – easyyyyyy.

2. Butter your bread – moderately easy dependent on your buttering powers.

3. Add that cheese baby. Cream or grated, your choice.

4. Dish up them beans – this takes skill. Be careful. You don’t want to make a bean mountain.

5. Enjoy!

Now I’m pretty sure you don’t need to be told how to make beans on toast. The truth is I’m just hungry. But if you are hungry too and your Monday morning does not include going to work, dish up some beans on toast for yourself in honour of me being hungry today.

Happy Monday!

Lipsy Dipsy Daisy

Oh lipsy, how I do love you. Have you ever noticed how a lipsy dress always seems to flatter you in all the right places? You walk around wearing it, feeling like a complete and utter sass-queen. But have you ever brought a lipsy dress… in the sale?!

Oh how much more exciting it is to wear that £65 dress that you brought for just £32. Especially with a handsome, suited & booted guy like Ben on your arm!

We had a wonderful time at our friend’s wedding recently – I adore having an occasion to dress up for. This embroidery lipsy dress was a last minute purchase after a tonne of panic shopping, and I am so glad I found it in the sale! The blue really stood out and was just absolutely perfect for the occasion.

Pixel2Print: Bringing Instagram to Life

I recently had the opportunity to receive numerous free prints of my choice from printing company, Pixel2Print, to see if I could use them for my blogging – I have been so impressed by the experience, that I NEED to rave about it to you.

*Before I go any further, I want to make it super clear that I received the prints free of charge from Pixel2Print, in exchange for the opportunity to try them out – this review is entirely my own opinion and I’d like to thank Pixel2Print for the wonderful  opportunity!*

The Power of a Backdrop

A backdrop is powerful in your content. It’s completely underestimated, but completely vital for a good feed.

When you look at certain blogs and Instagram feeds, themed content is always more engaging – isn’t that just how it is? As a predominantly lifestyle-based blogger, I find it really difficult to create any sort of ‘theme’ in my Instagram and blog, purely because my life doesn’t have one! I don’t just wear pink clothes, or drink from white mugs, I don’t live in a white box, or have marble kitchen tops… Life isn’t always Instagrammable!

So I explored a way of using the opportunity with Pixel2Print to create more themed content which could look professional, whilst sticking to the type of content I wanted to share – By no means does my Instagram feed have a consistent theme, but I like to create splashes of linked content every now and again!

I chose three high resolution pictures that I thought would make cool backgrounds – A blue splashy effect, a pink splashy effect and of course, marble. To find these pictures, I wanted to make sure that I could use them, so I searched for copyright free images and discovered a few free pictures that I liked via vecteezy.com.

Pixel2Print then printed my backdrops in their three most popular print types and sent them to me. The delivery and print experience was super speedy – my prints arrived the next day in perfect condition!

Each type of print is different – some are glossy whilst others are more matte. I personally think I have preferred the glossy prints, but the matte are equally as useful, especially when combining the two together…

So what do they look like on my feed? Here are a few snaps of my Instagram feed recently…

To fit into a lifestyle blogger’s feed, you don’t need to use the prints in every post. Instead, I have tied in the colours to a few photos that link e.g. the last few shots have a pink theme, in contrast to the blue theme which tied in from the print alongside my trip to the seaside! And it isn’t all about a ‘theme’ – its about creating neat and tidy looking content which engages with my followers.

Since using this more tactical approach to Instagram, I have seen my average likes soar from around 15 per photo to 30/40 per photo – isn’t that evidence enough that this works?! Here are a few shots of what my feed would generally look like before the prints…

My feed was messy and inconsistent, and would drive me insane! But now, I make sure to incorporate the prints into my feed to help tie my content together more – they gave my feed a natural flow.

Thank you so much to Pixel2Print for sending me the free samples, I will certainly be looking into getting a few more different colours and styles to experiment with!

4 Year Anniversay

Hi lovelies! Can you believe it? Me & Ben have been together for 4 YEARS!

To celebrate, I ‘surprised’ Ben with a weekend away for in his favourite seaside town, Great Yarmouth!

You might remember from previous posts, that Ben surprised me for our 2 year anniversary with a trip to Harry Potter world – I literally had no idea where I was going until we pulled up at the studios… so we decided that it was my turn to try and pull off a surprise…

So, I planned a visit to Great Yarmouth, staying at a beautiful 4 star hotel with a sea front room! All Ben knew was that we were going away for the weekend. I kept it a secret for over a month!

UNFORTUNATELY, the night before we were due to go, my Apple Maps kindly announced out loud (I was checking the route!) “Starting route to Great Yarmouth”… Ben obviously heard, didn’t he?

Nevertheless, he was chuffed, and we had an awesome weekend! The sun came out from under its dark British cloud, and we spent the weekend relaxing with plenty of fish & chips and ice cream. The hotel was amazing too!

Dealing with Exams

It’s that time of year again, where we emerge from our merry little Christmas coma to discover that we have an exam to study for and very little time to do so! I personally hate January exams, as I always feel that they creep up on me because I’m so excited for Christmas that the exam gets a tad forgotten until January 1st… then it’s a panic.

But do not fear my fellow examinees! Here are a few of my top tips for smashing your exams…

1. Start preparing as early as you can!

Make sure that you finish reading all the material as soon as possible so that you can crack on with making revision aids in good time for the exam. This will ensure that you can identify the areas you need more time on, whilst also allowing you to relax a little more in the days before the exam – cramming gives you far too much unnecessary stress!

2. Study little and often – break it up!

Again, please don’t try and cram it all into your head without taking a break! Cramming is unhealthy and counterproductive. I usually set myself “study days” in the run up to an exam where I try and revise as much as possible, but I take regular breaks throughout the day so that my head has a minute to actually digest what I have just revised. You wouldn’t eat dinner immediately after breakfast…would you?

3. Drink water – plenty!

Treat water like your kryptonite. Keeping hydrated is extremely important when studying as it makes your body function at its top form, helping you remember everything you need to. Plus it gives you lots of reasons to take a break – toilet break and top up, anyone?

4. Tailor your revision to you

It would be completely useless for me if I just read pages and pages of notes without doing anything with them, because I learn best from summarising information into colourful spider diagarams and posters. I know this because I have tailored my revision over the years and noticed that this is how I learn best! In contrast, you might learn from reading pages of notes, or listening back to audio notes. The point is, tailor your revision to how you learn best – don’t just copy your friend’s method. We know our own minds the best, so study in a self-tailored fashion for ultimate success.

5. Don’t panic

Easier said than done, right? Keeping cool in the run up to an exam is essential in avoiding extreme procrastination! Try and relax. Instead of fretting, ensure you are revising as much as possible at any given opportunity. Take time out of your day to revise, even if it’s just for half an hour. Dedicate yourself to the exam as much as you can and you’ll find your nerves blossoming into confidence. Breathe! It’s all going to be ok.

6. Eat well

What a mighty fine reason to take a break – a girls gotta eat! Make sure you are fuelling your body with good food so that you have enough energy to absorb the information. A few veggies won’t hurt!

7. Sleep

Don’t do an all nighter, your brain will go bye byes before you realise. Get plenty of sleep near an exam so your head is wide awake and ready to learn!

8. Move about & turn off that phone!

Don’t sit in a chair all day thinking you’re actually taking a break by scrolling on Instagram for ten minutes. Take a stroll and get some fresh air in your breaks so that you aren’t turning into a stone statue, cowering over a book. If you ache today, you’ll ache tomorrow, and being uncomfortable is the biggest distracted when it comes to revising.

I hope you enjoyed my tips & are studying the hell out of January! Time for me to get on with me studies today… let’s do this!
*Cue cute picture of Me & Ben because I miss him already!*

Furry friends & bye byes

After 3 weeks of having Molly and Ben at home, the day has officially arrived for them to go back down south and proceed with their day to day lives, leaving me ready to see them at weekends or in a matter of weeks. Sigh.

It really shouldn’t be as big as a deal as it feels every time they go, because I know I will see Ben at the weeekend and Molly is only going for a week before she comes back home for a week again – but it’s the concept of it all I guess.

I just miss sitting in the kitchen with my sister in the evenings after work, chatting absolute rubbish over a cup of tea. And I miss having someone to cuddle up to in bed and telling me funny jokes and stories just to see me laugh. Sigh.

But hey ho, people don’t always have to be together to be happy together! It just makes things easier sometimes… but who said we didn’t like a challenge eh?

In the meantime, me and my fur babies will be having plenty more cuddles to compensate for the absence of my sister and boyfriend this week – and oh how beautiful they are! Here’s #HoraceTheBunnyRabbit and #GilbertTheBullmastiff looking gorgeous!
